That Jar of Nutella (Lasts a Long Time)
23 Nov
I wrote a post in March about my affinity for Nutella and how the discarded 200g glass jars (a) made excellent wine/juice glasses (b) were a great excuse to buy more Nutella. Somehow, this (once) obscure post has been attracting Googlers who are starting to flock to it en masse. Perhaps, it is the spirit of thrift- people truly want a good use for their discarded Nutella jars. Or, maybe people just need a chocolate-y hazelnutty fix. Regardless, if you squint, you can see the trend, with the crazy upward spike corresponding to late-October/now.

I did a little research and apparently Google is a bit more abuzz about Nutella than usual. More people searching = more people taking spoonfuls of my site. One interesting thing that made headlines over the summer was that our very own world leaders were served Nutella with breakfast during the G8 conference. The only hot Nutella story that I have stumbled upon (other than an advertising award) is that its parent company is considering a bid for Cadbury.
While trying to make sense of all of this, I ended up searching Twitter for a quick minute and at the tippy-top of the tweets was a fellow-Michigander. In a classic example of a product being co-opted for other uses, I wonder if there are legions of other Nutella fans that have found (via Google) a similar use for Nutella.

Who knows? She could be one of my new visitors. As for me, I prefer it by the spoonful.

I hate to admit it, but I’m lacking the creativity to see what the other uses of Nutella are… maybe i should google it, but I’m afraid to see the results.
I was thinking the same thing, but I know a girl from Michigan that we could tweet if we want some ideas.
